Job description

United States · Remote · Internship

AMI Payments helps banks, fintechs, remittance providers and payment companies test, benchmark and improve cross-border payment journeys into Africa. Our work gives clients actionable evidence on payment costs, FX transparency, delivery speed, reliability and beneficiary experience, helping them address performance gaps and strengthen customer acquisition and retention.

We’re looking for a Business Development Manager to grow our client base across the UK, Europe and other Western markets. Working closely with the founders, you will own the sales process, from researching prospects and engaging decision-makers to leading discovery calls, developing proposals, negotiating terms and closing paid pilots.

You will build relationships with commercial, product, operations and partnerships leaders, understand their payment challenges and translate those needs into clearly scoped engagements. You will also help convert successful pilots into ongoing client relationships, maintain an accurate sales pipeline and bring customer insights into our product and commercial decisions.

This role suits a proactive, commercially minded relationship builder who can make complex services easy to understand and connect them to measurable business value. Success will be measured through qualified opportunities, paid pilot revenue and growth in ongoing client engagements.

Responsibilities
  • Research banks, fintechs, remittance providers and payment companies serving Africa to identify potential customers for AMI Payments.
  • Build and maintain accurate prospect lists, including company information, relevant decision-makers and contact details.
  • Help prepare and conduct personalised outreach through email, LinkedIn and other agreed channels.
  • Follow up with prospects, coordinate introductions and book meetings for the founders or commercial team.
  • Participate in discovery calls, take clear notes and document customer challenges, priorities and next steps.
  • Support the preparation of presentations and paid pilot proposals tailored to each prospect’s needs.
  • Learn to explain how AMI Payments’ testing, benchmarking and intelligence services help clients understand and improve payment performance.
  • Keep CRM records and sales trackers updated with outreach activity, meeting outcomes and follow-up actions.
  • Research industry developments, competitors and relevant events, sharing useful insights with the team.
  • Assist with proposal follow-ups and client onboarding, ensuring agreed requirements and commitments are recorded accurately.
  • Develop practical sales and payments knowledge through training, feedback and progressively greater responsibility.
Requirements
  • Experience in B2B business development, consultative sales or a related commercial role.
  • A track record of generating qualified opportunities and progressing deals from initial outreach through to signed agreements.
  • Strong discovery skills, with the ability to uncover customer problems, identify budget owners and build a clear business case.
  • Experience developing proposals, presenting to senior stakeholders and negotiating commercial terms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex services through clear customer outcomes.
  • Confidence using CRM systems, prospecting tools and structured account research to manage a pipeline and forecast sales.
  • Commercial judgement to assess opportunity value, delivery feasibility and the resources required to win and serve a client.
  • A proactive, organised approach, with the ability to work independently and collaborate closely with founders and delivery colleagues.
