Job description

Big Bowl of Ideas is seeking a self-motivated, organized, and resourceful Business Development Manager.

If you enjoy doing good for the world and generating resources to support social change initiatives, we want to hear from people with a knack for securing business, government, and philanthropic grants that align with our mission to create culturally competent and design-forward solutions.

We generate funding from sectors including business, government, and philanthropy. You should be comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders, from the Chief of Social Impact at a B corp to a Program Officer at a family foundation or a Director at a County Arts Council.

As a Business Development Manager, your role will involve identifying new opportunities to generate revenue and foster growth.

We are looking for someone who can:

  1. Build the development arm of our organization by enhancing our funder research and proposal capabilities for large-scale projects.
  2. Lead B2B efforts to market to and secure leads from government institutions and socially responsible corporations.
  3. Assist current and prospective nonprofit clients in finding funding solutions for creative communications projects.
  4. This position is likely 10 hours/week, with potential to increase to 20-25 hours/week based on needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving development efforts and growing our client base.
  • Researching grant and B2B opportunities in social justice, economic justice, arts, media, and movement building sectors.
  • Leading proposal planning and preparation, including reports and other materials for diverse funding opportunities.
  • Collaborating with the design team to develop online and print communication materials for donors and partners.
  • Developing additional materials and supporting other grant projects as needed.
  • Researching potential funders and presenting opportunity summaries to management.
  • Coordinating with client development teams on proposal crafting.
  • Tracking grant deadlines to ensure timely submissions.

Qualifications include:

  • BA or MA in Business Administration/Management or 3+ years of experience in development leadership within nonprofit or B2B sales environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to navigate transparency and discretion.
  • Experience in startup or small business environments, demonstrating flexibility and multitasking capabilities.
  • Strong proposal writing and presentation skills.
  • Resourceful research abilities.
  • Familiarity with art, design, video, and event production sectors.
  • Commitment to social and economic justice and making a positive impact.
