Job description

Business Development Manager – National Accounts

Position Overview

Regency Supply is looking for a Business Development Manager – National Accounts to build new business relationships with commercial end users across the United States.

This is a true hunter role.

You will not inherit a book of business, established territory, or portfolio of accounts to manage.

Your primary responsibility will be identifying opportunities, opening doors, building relationships, and developing new national accounts from the ground up.

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys prospecting, making connections, earning meetings, and turning new relationships into long-term customers. Once you win an account, you will continue to quarterback the customer relationship, projects, and sales strategy while Regency’s experienced support teams handle much of the purchasing, project management, lighting support, operations, and execution behind the scenes.

The right candidate will have approximately 2–3 years of successful outside sales or business development experience, preferably within lighting distribution, electrical distribution, or a closely related industry selling directly to commercial end users.

What You’ll Do
  • Prospect and develop new national and multi-location commercial accounts.
  • Build a pipeline from the ground up through outbound calling, networking, referrals, industry relationships, research, and in-person meetings.
  • Identify and connect with key decision-makers within targeted organizations.
  • Develop relationships with facilities, procurement, construction, real estate, operations, and other stakeholders involved in lighting and electrical purchasing decisions.
  • Create opportunities where Regency does not currently have an established relationship.
  • Travel to meet prospects and customers, visit facilities, attend industry events, and support account development efforts.
  • Serve as the primary relationship owner and quarterback for accounts you develop.
  • Coordinate internally with project managers, purchasers, lighting designers, operations teams, and other Regency resources to deliver for the customer.
  • Identify opportunities to expand successful relationships across additional locations, regions, business units, and service categories.
  • Maintain an active, disciplined pipeline and consistently pursue new business.
  • Build long-term customer relationships while remaining focused on continued account growth and new customer acquisition.
What We’re Looking For
  • Approximately 2–3 years of successful B2B sales, outside sales, or business development experience.
  • Experience in lighting distribution, electrical distribution, or a closely related industry is strongly preferred.
  • Experience selling directly to commercial end users rather than primarily selling through manufacturer channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, cold call, network, and generate your own opportunities.
  • A track record of opening new accounts rather than relying primarily on an inherited customer base.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence engaging decision-makers within large, sophisticated organizations.
  • Ability to manage longer and more complex sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong follow-through and the ability to coordinate multiple opportunities and projects at once.
  • Comfortable working independently while leveraging a strong internal support team.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required to develop national accounts.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and a strong desire to build something over time.
Who Will Thrive in This Role

This position is built for someone who loves the hunt.

You enjoy finding the right person inside an organization, earning the conversation, discovering an opportunity, and building a relationship where one did not previously exist.

You are comfortable hearing "no," following up consistently, and staying engaged through a longer sales cycle. You do not need a manager to hand you leads or an established book of business to stay productive.

You also understand that winning the customer is only the beginning. Once you establish the relationship, you want to remain involved, guide the sales strategy, and help expand the account while allowing a strong internal team to handle much of the day-to-day execution.

This role is not designed for someone looking primarily to inherit and manage an existing territory or customer base. It is an opportunity for a business developer who wants to create their own portfolio of national accounts and participate directly in the value they build.

Compensation
  • Uncapped commission opportunity
  • Compensation is designed to increasingly reward the book of business you build and the revenue you generate.
  • The base salary is structured to decline over approximately 6–7 years as commission income and the salesperson’s established book of business grow.
  • The position is ultimately designed to transition to a commission-only compensation structure.
  • Specific salary progression, commission rates, and compensation plan terms will be communicated as part of the hiring process.

For the right salesperson, this structure provides the opportunity to build a significant long-term income stream directly tied to the business and customer relationships they develop.

Additional Benefits Include:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) retirement savings program
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Ongoing professional development and career growth opportunities
  • Support from an experienced team of project managers, purchasers, lighting specialists, and operations professionals
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial culture focused on customer success
