Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
  • Active CPA license.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience, including meaningful experience in a Controller or comparable senior accounting leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting an organization with $100 million or more in annual revenue and a complex, multi-functional operating environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of public accounting experience with a national or comparable public accounting firm.
  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, accounting controls, and financial statement preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the accounting organization, including direct reports and offshore team.
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, credit & collections, and related functions.
  • Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensure accurate financial reporting.

Regency Supply is seeking an accomplished, strategic, and highly analytical Controller to lead the company’s accounting function and strengthen the financial infrastructure that supports our continued growth.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance, the Controller will serve as the senior accounting leader responsible for financial reporting, accounting operations, internal controls, treasury management, compliance, and the integrity of the company’s financial information. This individual will lead a multi-functional accounting organization, partner closely with senior leadership and department heads, and play a key role in improving processes, systems, reporting, and financial discipline across the organization.

The ideal candidate brings a strong technical accounting foundation, demonstrated leadership experience within a complex operating environment, and the ability to move comfortably between strategic financial initiatives and detailed accounting matters.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting Leadership & Financial Reporting
  • Lead and develop the accounting organization, including three direct reports: Accounting Supervisor, Credit & Collections Manager, and Accounting Manager, with additional oversight of the offshore accounting team.
  • Provide overall leadership and accountability for the company’s accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit and collections, and related accounting functions.
  • Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete financial reporting.
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger activity, journal entries, and other key accounting processes to ensure accuracy and appropriate financial controls.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and controls that support scalable and reliable financial operations.
  • Provide technical accounting leadership and GAAP guidance to accounting staff, senior leadership, and operational departments.
  • Monitor new accounting standards and pronouncements and lead implementation of changes that may impact the company’s financial reporting.
Financial Planning, Analysis & Executive Reporting
  • Partner with the Vice President of Finance in the development and analysis of monthly forecasts, annual operating plans, and long-range financial initiatives.
  • Lead the company’s annual budgeting process, coordinating assumptions, timelines, and deliverables across departments.
  • Develop and analyze key performance indicators, management reporting, and Executive Team dashboards that provide actionable insight into company performance.
  • Partner with business leaders to analyze financial results, identify trends and risks, and improve financial accountability.
  • Enhance financial reporting through business intelligence and analytics tools, including development of cash flow forecasts, cash flow statements, expense analysis, and other management reporting.
Internal Controls, Process Improvement & Systems
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment and proactively identify financial, operational, and compliance risks.
  • Partner with department leaders to strengthen processes and controls that affect financial reporting and transaction accuracy.
  • Identify root causes of accounting errors, operational inefficiencies, and breakdowns in financial processes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Continuously evaluate accounting workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and automation.
  • Partner with the IT department on automation initiatives, system enhancements, integrations, and other technology projects affecting accounting and finance.
  • Champion the use of technology and business intelligence tools to reduce manual processes and improve access to timely financial information.
Treasury, Cash Flow & Banking
  • Lead treasury management activities and optimize the company’s cash position and working capital.
  • Manage short- and long-term cash flow forecasting and provide leadership with visibility into liquidity requirements.
  • Maintain primary relationships with banking partners and coordinate significant banking matters.
  • Monitor financial performance against lending requirements and proactively identify risks that could affect bank covenants.
  • Support financing activities and other banking initiatives as required.
Audit, Tax & Compliance
  • Lead the annual financial statement audit and serve as the primary liaison with the company’s external CPA firm.
  • Coordinate bank audits, financial reviews, and other external examinations as required.
  • Prepare and oversee audit schedules, supporting documentation, and management responses.
  • Ensure the company meets applicable federal, state, local, tax, and financial compliance requirements.
  • Partner with external advisors as appropriate on accounting, tax, regulatory, and financial matters.
Credit, Working Capital & Operational Support
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Credit & Collections functions to ensure strong operational performance.
  • Partner with the Credit & Collections Manager on significant customer credit decisions, credit terms, account exposure, and order-release decisions.
  • Monitor working capital metrics and identify opportunities to improve cash conversion and overall financial performance.
  • Review significant contracts and agreements from an accounting, financial, and risk perspective.
  • Serve as a trusted financial partner to operational leaders throughout the organization.
Strategic Leadership
  • Serve as a key advisor to the Vice President of Finance and other members of leadership on accounting, financial reporting, risk, and operational matters.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor accounting team members while establishing clear expectations, accountability, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Build processes and capabilities that support the continued growth and increasing complexity of the organization.
  • Lead and participate in special projects, acquisitions, system implementations, and other strategic finance initiatives as needed.
QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience, including meaningful experience in a Controller or comparable senior accounting leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting an organization with $100 million or more in annual revenue and a complex, multi-functional operating environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of public accounting experience with a national or comparable public accounting firm.
  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, accounting controls, and financial statement preparation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading month-end and year-end close processes, external audits, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, and financial reporting.

  • Ability to translate complex accounting and financial concepts into clear, practical guidance for non-financial leaders.
  • Strong communication, executive presence, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred
  • Experience within distribution, manufacturing, electrical, lighting, or another inventory-intensive business.
  • Experience leading accounting operations within a multi-location or geographically dispersed organization.
  • Experience with ERP systems, business intelligence platforms, financial reporting tools, and accounting-process automation.
  • Demonstrated experience improving accounting processes, strengthening internal controls, and scaling finance functions within a growing organization.
  • Open to remote or hybrid. Preference to someone in TN or CA.
