Job description

We are a technically focused manufacturing company specializing in high-quality subcontract manufacturing for the medical device market. Our core capabilities include check valves, regulators, manifold assemblies, and other precision fluid-handling and electromechanical components. We partner with OEMs as a trusted subcontracting partner, delivering reliable, regulated manufacturing solutions.

Location:

Ideally near major medical device hubs east of the Mississippi River (e.g., Boston/Cambridge, New Jersey/New York metro, Philadelphia, Research Triangle, Atlanta, or similar). Remote/flexible within the Eastern U.S. territory with significant travel expected.

Position Summary

We are seeking a driven Business Development Manager with a technical background to grow our Eastern U.S. territory. This role focuses on identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities with medical device manufacturers. Success requires understanding customer technical requirements, articulating the value of our assembly and manufacturing capabilities, and building long-term partnerships. You will operate with significant autonomy while collaborating closely with our internal engineering, quality, operations, and The West Group team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prospect and hunt new OEM and medical device accounts across the Eastern United States.
  • Understand complex customer requirements involving check valves, regulators, manifold assemblies, and related technical components.
  • Develop technical solutions, models, proposals, and value propositions that clearly communicate our capabilities as a subcontract manufacturing partner.
  • Build and manage a robust sales pipeline; conduct discovery meetings, technical discussions, and presentations.
  • Negotiate and close new business with a strong emphasis on profitable, long-term opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, quality, production, and the West Coast BDM) to ensure accurate quoting, feasibility, and smooth handoff of new programs.
  • Maintain CRM records, forecast accurately, and report on pipeline and activity metrics.
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and customer sites as needed.
  • Continuously expand product and market knowledge to stay competitive in the medical device subcontracting space.
Requirements
  • Strong technical background preferred (engineering degree or equivalent hands‑on experience with fluid components, valves, regulators, manifolds, or precision medical device assembly).
  • Proven hunter mentality with a track record of developing new business (ideally in medical device, contract manufacturing, or technical B2B sales).
  • Excellent communication skills — able to translate technical capabilities into customer value and build trust with engineering and purchasing stakeholders.
  • Experience reading technical drawings/specifications and discussing manufacturing processes is highly desirable.
  • Self‑motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently in a remote/territory role with travel (expected up to 50%).
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Engineering, Business, or related field); equivalent relevant experience considered.
  • Familiarity with medical device quality systems (ISO 13485, GMP) (Desirable)
  • Must reside near or be willing to travel extensively within medical device hubs

Our successful candidate must pass background check and be eligible to work in the U.S.

This role offers the opportunity to leverage technical expertise in a high-impact, commission-rich sales position while helping medical device companies bring reliable products to market.

  • Base salary: $80,000 – $110,000 (depending on experience and location)
  • Objective-based bonuses: approximately $12,000 annually
  • Attractive commission plan based on opportunity profit margin (lifetime residual structure) variable based on deals won.
