Job description

Big Bowl of Ideas is seeking a self-motivated, organized, and resourceful Business Development Manager.

If you like doing good for the world and generating resources to do so, we’re looking for individuals with a knack for generating business, government, and philanthropic grants that support our mission to create culturally competent and design-forward solutions for social change.

We generate funding from sectors including business, government, and philanthropy. You should be comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders, from the Chief of Social Impact at a B corp to a Program Officer at a family foundation or a Director at a County Arts Council.

As a Business Development Manager, you’ll identify new opportunities to generate revenue and support business growth.

We are looking for someone who can:

Build the development arm of our company by enhancing our funder research and proposal capacity for large projects.
Lead B2B efforts to market to and secure leads from government institutions and socially responsible corporations.
Assist current and prospective nonprofit clients in finding funding solutions for creative communications projects.
This position is likely 10 hours/week, with potential to increase to 20-25 hours/week depending on needs.

  • Drive development efforts, championing our mission and expanding our client base.
  • Research grant and B2B opportunities in social justice, economic justice, arts, media, and movement building projects focused on culture and social change.
  • Lead the planning and preparation of proposals, reports, and materials for funding opportunities and client needs.
  • Collaborate with the design team to develop online and print communication materials for donors and partners; strong presentation skills are essential.
  • Develop additional materials and support other grant projects as needed.
  • Research potential funders, present opportunity summaries, and help prioritize prospects.
  • Coordinate with clients’ development teams on proposal crafting for Big Bowl of Ideas concepts.
  • Track grant deadlines to ensure timely submission of materials.

Qualifications include:

  • BA or MA in Business Administration/Management or 3+ years of experience leading development teams in nonprofit or B2B sales.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to navigate transparency and discretion seamlessly.
  • Experience in startup or small business environments, with flexibility and resilience under high stress.
  • Strong proposal writing and presentation skills.
  • Resourceful research abilities.
  • Familiarity with art, design, video, and event production, with the ability to communicate within these realms.
  • Commitment to social and economic justice and improving the world.
