Big Bowl of Ideas is seeking a self-motivated, organized, and resourceful Business Development Manager.
If you like doing good for the world and generating resources to do so, we’re looking for individuals who excel at generating business and securing grants from government, philanthropic, and business sectors that support our mission to create culturally competent and design-forward solutions for social change.
We generate funding from multiple sectors: business, government, and philanthropy. You should be comfortable communicating with a Chief of Social Impact at a B Corp, a Program Officer at a family foundation, or a Director at a County Arts Council.
As a Business Development Manager, you’ll identify new opportunities to generate revenue and help our organization grow.
We are looking for someone who can:
- Build the development arm of our company by enhancing our funder research and proposal capabilities for large-scale projects.
- Lead B2B efforts to market to and secure leads from government institutions and socially responsible corporations.
- Assist current and prospective nonprofit clients in finding funding solutions for creative communication projects.
- This position is likely 10 hours/week, potentially increasing to 20-25 hours/week based on needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Driving development efforts and growing our client base while championing our mission.
- Researching grant and B2B opportunities in social justice, economic justice, arts, media, and movement building.
- Leading the planning and preparation of proposals, reports, and materials for various funding opportunities and client needs.
- Supporting the design team in creating online and print materials for donors and partners, including developing compelling presentations.
- Developing additional materials and supporting other grant projects as needed.
- Researching potential funders and presenting opportunity summaries to management, helping prioritize prospects.
- Coordinating with development teams to craft proposals for Big Bowl of Ideas projects.
- Tracking grant deadlines to ensure timely submissions.
Qualifications include:
- BA or MA in Business Administration or Business Management, or 3+ years of experience leading development teams in nonprofit or B2B sales environments.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to balance transparency and discretion with clients and stakeholders.
- Experience in startup or small business environments, with flexibility and the ability to handle high-stress situations.
- Strong proposal writing skills and the ability to present effectively to senior management.
- Resourcefulness in research and outreach.
- Familiarity with art, design, video, and event production, and the ability to communicate within those fields.
- Dedication to social and economic justice and improving the world.
