Southern Metalcraft is seeking a Business Development Manager to win new OEM and other large-account business. You will identify, qualify, and close opportunities that meet our standards, collaborating with inside technical sales to assess manufacturability, capacity, and pricing before pursuing and closing deals.

This role requires regular regional travel, overnight trips, and the ability to build senior-level relationships with purchasing, engineering, and executive decision-makers in target

Qualifications

  • Five+ years of B2B sales or business-development in manufacturing/industrial environments.
  • Experience developing OEM or high-volume manufacturing accounts; manage complex RFQs, pricing, contracts.
  • Ability to build senior-level relationships with purchasing, sourcing, engineering, and executives.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes, capacity, lead times, costing, and supply-chain considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Win new OEM and large-account business for Southern Metalcraft.

Job description

The Business Development Manager is a newly created, hunter-focused position responsible for winning new OEM and other large-account business for Southern Metalcraft. This role identifies, qualifies, and closes new customer relationships that meet SMI's opportunity standards. The Business Development Manager works closely with SMI's inside technical sales partner to assess manufacturability, capacity fit, and pricing before pursuing and closing new business, then transitions won accounts to that role for ongoing account management. This position requires regular travel, including daily and overnight trips, to build relationships with customers and prospects throughout the region. The Business Development Manager reports directly to the President and does not have direct supervisory responsibility over the Estimating, Order Entry/Customer Service, or Purchasing functions.

Qualifications & Competencies
Required
  • Five or more years of B2B sales or business-development experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment, with a demonstrated track record of winning new accounts.
  • Demonstrated experience developing new OEM or high-volume manufacturing accounts and managing complex RFQs, pricing, and contract negotiations.
  • Ability to build senior-level relationships with purchasing, sourcing, engineering, and executive decision-makers at target accounts.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, production capacity, lead times, costing, and supply-chain considerations, sufficient to identify viable opportunities.
  • Strong prospecting discipline and ability to consistently meet activity-based pipeline-development targets.
  • Ability to travel regularly, including daily and overnight travel, to support customers and business-development activities.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience selling into or pursuing accounts within data center, agricultural equipment, material handling, food, packaging, or other OEM/industrial sectors.
  • Established network of OEM purchasing, engineering, and executive contacts within the Southeast region.
  • Experience partnering with a technical/inside sales or estimating counterpart to qualify and size complex manufacturing opportunities.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication processes (laser cutting, forming/press brake, welding, hardware insertion, finishing).
  • Proficiency with CRM and ERP systems (experience with Funnel Maker and/or JobBOSS preferred) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated track record of exceeding new-business quotas or revenue growth targets in a manufacturing or industrial sales role.
