Job description

Location: Central Texas

Work Arrangement: Hybrid with regional travel

Compensation: $85,000–$105,000 base salary plus uncapped commission, with flexibility for highly experienced candidates who bring an established pipeline or transferable book of business

Territory: Greater Austin, Waco, San Antonio, College Station, Marble Falls, and surrounding Central Texas markets

Position Overview

A growing Central Texas technology and security integrator is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to build a new book of business across the region.

This is a true hunter role for someone who understands the security and low‑voltage integration industry and can independently identify prospects, develop relationships, qualify opportunities, and convert them into profitable contracts. The successful candidate will sell integrated Division 27 and 28 solutions, including video surveillance, access control, structured cabling, intrusion detection, and audiovisual systems.

The company can provide selected leads, market intelligence, and sales support, but this individual should be prepared to enter a largely greenfield territory and generate most opportunities through direct business development. The role offers meaningful autonomy, a broad addressable market, and an uncapped commission structure for someone capable of building a sustainable book of business.

Primary Markets

The Business Development Manager will pursue opportunities across commercial and institutional markets, with particular emphasis on:

  • Manufacturing and industrial facilities
  • K–12 school systems
  • Colleges and universities
  • Commercial construction
  • Tenant‑improvement projects
  • Owners and end users
  • General contractors and construction partners
  • Service agreements and recurring‑revenue programs
Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a qualified pipeline of new construction, retrofit, service, and account‑expansion opportunities.
  • Build a primarily new book of business through prospecting, networking, referrals, industry relationships, and direct customer engagement.
  • Manage the complete sales lifecycle from initial outreach and discovery through qualification, proposal development, negotiation, and contract execution.
  • Develop relationships with general contractors, owners, end users, consultants, school systems, manufacturers, and other commercial decision‑makers.
  • Position the company as a comprehensive provider of video surveillance, access control, structured cabling, intrusion detection, audiovisual, and related low‑voltage solutions.
  • Conduct credible discovery conversations regarding customer requirements, facilities, project timing, budgets, and technical objectives.
  • Partner with sales engineering, estimating, operations, and project management to develop accurate and executable solutions.
  • Ensure proposed opportunities align with the company’s technical capabilities, delivery capacity, and gross‑margin requirements.
  • Communicate project scope, pricing considerations, material risks, procurement timing, and customer expectations throughout the sales process.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity stages, values, timelines, activities, and forecasts within the CRM.
  • Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to leadership, estimating, and operations.
  • Identify service‑agreement and recurring‑revenue opportunities within both new and established customer relationships.
  • Support a disciplined handoff from sales to project execution, ensuring clarity regarding scope, commitments, and customer expectations.
  • Represent the organization at customer meetings, job sites, industry events, and regional networking activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • At least three years of business development, sales, account management, sales engineering, or estimating experience within security integration, low‑voltage systems, commercial construction, or a closely related technical field.
  • Direct industry experience with one or more of the following:
  • Video surveillance
  • Access control
  • Structured cabling
  • Intrusion detection
  • Audiovisual systems
  • Demonstrated ability to create new opportunities and convert prospects into signed contracts or purchase orders.
  • Strong hunter mentality and willingness to build a territory through proactive, self‑generated sales activity.
  • Working knowledge of project‑based sales cycles, proposal development, contract structures, and gross‑margin considerations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship‑building, negotiation, organizational, and follow‑through skills.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Central Texas for customer meetings, site visits, networking events, and periodic office collaboration.
  • Consistent CRM usage and the ability to produce reliable pipeline forecasts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • An established network of relationships within the Central Texas commercial construction, education, manufacturing, or end‑user markets.
  • A documented history of selling security integration or low‑voltage projects.
  • Experience developing an annual book of business ranging from $3 million to $8 million.
  • Experience selling service agreements, maintenance programs, managed services, or other recurring‑revenue solutions.
  • Familiarity with manufacturer pricing, registered pricing, procurement timing, and material‑escalation considerations.
  • Experience working closely with estimating and operations to develop margin‑protected proposals.
  • Familiarity with CRM and quoting platforms such as "Microsoft Dynamics 365", "ConnectWise", or comparable systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
