  • Develop and execute creative account strategies tailored to target industries (oil & gas, chemical processing, power, aerospace & defense, pharma, industrial automation).
  • Lead customer development by engaging prospects to uncover needs, present instrumentation solutions, and advance opportunities from contact to invoices.
  • Build relationships with C-suite executives and decision-makers to deliver strategic value.
  • Participate in industry associations, trade shows, conferences to establish new business relationships.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to position the company as a preferred supplier.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product management, marketing, and operations to develop proposals and ensure smooth handoff of closed opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of prospecting, lead management, and sales activities in CRM.
  • Achieve or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets and revenue goals.
  • Provide reporting on market trends, competitive activity, and sales effectiveness.

The Business Development Manager is a strategic and proactive sales executive responsible for driving new business growth for the company in the measurement and instrumentation industry. This role focuses on identifying, generating, and converting high-quality leads into new revenue streams through disciplined cold calling, creative account strategies, and targeted customer engagement.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong business acumen to build relationships with C-suite and senior decision-makers, actively participate in industry and affiliated associations, and consistently deliver sales results that meet or exceed company objectives. By combining hunting skills with strategic thinking, this position expands the company’s market presence and establishes long‑term, high‑value customer partnerships in a competitive B2B technical environment.

Detailed Role Deliverables

  • Generate and qualify a steady pipeline of new leads through proactive cold calling, email campaigns, networking, and digital prospecting activities.
  • Develop and execute creative account strategies tailored to target industries such as oil & gas, chemical processing, power generation, aerospace & defense, pharmaceutical production, and industrial automation.
  • Lead customer business development efforts by regularly engaging prospects and existing contacts to uncover needs, present tailored instrumentation solutions, and advance opportunities from initial contact through quotes, orders, and invoicing.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with C-suite executives and key decision-makers by demonstrating deep understanding of their business challenges and aligning company solutions to deliver strategic value.
  • Actively participate in industry associations, trade shows, technical conferences, and affiliated organizations to establish new business relationships and enhance company visibility.
  • Conduct thorough market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging opportunities and position the company as a preferred supplier of measurement and instrumentation solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, product management, marketing, and operations) to develop compelling proposals and ensure seamless handoff of closed opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all prospecting, lead management, and sales activities within the CRM system.
  • Consistently achieve or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets, new business revenue goals, and key performance metrics focused on pipeline growth and conversion.
  • Provide regular reporting and insights on market trends, competitive activity, and business development effectiveness to senior leadership.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proven hunter mentality with exceptional cold-calling, prospecting, and lead-generation skills in a technical B2B sales environment.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking to understand customer industries, align solutions with executive-level priorities, and create win‑win business development strategies.

Qualifications and Basic California Law Compliances

  • To qualify for, maintain, and excel in this role moving forward, the individual must meet the following:Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, marketing, or a related field required; advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of successful experience in business development, new sales, or hunter‑style account acquisition within a technical or industrial products sector.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States with the ability to provide required documentation for Form I‑9 employment eligibility verification.
  • Willing and able to successfully complete any post‑conditional‑offer background check, drug screening, or other verifications permitted under the California Fair Chance Act and applicable state law.
  • Maintain full compliance with all federal, state (including California), and local employment laws, regulations, and company policies, including wage and hour requirements, anti‑discrimination statutes, and workplace safety standards.
  • Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and meet company insurability requirements (significant travel for customer visits, trade shows, and networking events is required).
  • Demonstrate ongoing adherence to industry‑specific quality and regulatory standards relevant to measurement and instrumentation products (e.g., ISO, NIST traceability awareness).
  • Commit to continuous professional development, ethical conduct, and active participation in industry associations to drive sustained new business growth.
