Job summary

The Modal Shop – An Amphenol Company, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, seeks a Business Development Manager to drive revenue and margin growth for the Test Market, focusing on Aerospace, Defense, and Automotive sectors. You will lead consultative technical sales, enablement, and global execution with outside sales support.

Responsibilities include coordinating with sales teams, developing strategic plans, and owning forecasting. Travel domestically and internationally is required.

Qualifications

  • Education: Four year technical degree or equivalent.
  • Experience: 1 to 5 years in high tech, instrumentation with B2B sales or business development.
  • Leadership experience preferred; 1+ year in a leadership role.
  • Salesforce proficiency and computer skills including MS Office and manufacturing systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication; strong public speaking.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Product Team Leader with all sales activities for the market group.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic plan for the product team and market group.
  • Coordinate with domestic and international sales management.
  • Partner with Regional Sales Managers, PMs, and field engineers to meet goals.
  • Own pipeline forecasting and Salesforce dashboards; support customer engagement.

The Business Development Manager will develop, coordinate, and implement plans and projects to achieve revenue and margin growth of The Modal Shop's Test Market with a strong focus on Aerospace & Defense and Automotive. Leads the market strategy and drives consultative technical sales - will direct and support outside sales activities, provide technical enablement, and coordinate global execution.


Additional Duties


  • Assists the Product Team Leader with all sales activities relative to the market group.

  • Develops, maintains, and is accountable for a strategic plan for assigned product team and market group.

  • Integrates the market group strategic plan with domestic and international sales management.

  • Act as the strategic partner to the Regional Sales Managers, Product Managers, Field Sales/Applications Engineers, direct and non-direct International Offices, and the Director of Sales & Marketing to ensure success in meeting goals.

  • Owns pipeline-level forecasting and bookings activities for the assigned product team and market group; Maintain Salesforce records and required dashboards.

  • Ensures effective communication among Global Sales Channels through phone calls, internet-based web conferences, and on-site visits.

  • Lead technical workshops, application evaluations, and specification activities that bring measurable technical value to justify customer engagement.

  • Create/deliver product and application training for outside sales, new employees, and direct-office teams; produce technical write‑ups and marketing assets.

  • Present at webinars, conferences, customer technical sessions, and internal strategy meetings.

  • Visits key customers and adheres to commitments made.

  • Responsible for policies/procedures to support objectives.

  • Provides sales support and phone coverage for customers.

  • Responsible for support of the Application Engineers, Customer Service Representatives, Technical Sales or other sales channels with regards to technical and sales assistance.

  • Identify and develop strategic relationships with potential customers.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Education: Four year technical degree or equivalent.

  • Experience: 1 to 5 years of experience in a high tech, instrumentation, or related industry specific to the market group focus with B2B consultative/technical sales, business development or key account management responsibilities. One or more years’ experience in a leadership role. Salesforce proficiency and computer skills including Microsoft office and manufacturing operations information systems. Ability to understand financial reports and statements. Excellent written and verbal technical communication; strong public‑speaking and virtual presentation skills.

  • Travel Requirement: Domestic and international travel required 25%


Preferred Qualifications


  • MBA or MS is a plus.

  • International experience preferred. Demonstrated and significant success in growing a territory or product line preferred. Advanced Salesforce skills preferred.
