Qualifications

  • Ability to travel to customer sites as needed.

Job description

The Sales and Application Engineer is a critical technical support member of the sales team responsible for executing and advancing the sales process initiated by Account Managers, Key Account Managers, and the Business Development Manager in the measurement and instrumentation industry. This role focuses on timely and accurate lead follow-up, opportunity management, quote development, order processing, and post-sales support to ensure smooth transactional sales cycles and high levels of customer satisfaction.

Combining strong technical knowledge of instrumentation products with excellent customer service and organizational skills, the Sales and Application Engineer helps convert opportunities into closed orders while providing responsive application engineering support that contributes to overall sales success and customer loyalty.

Detailed Role Deliverables
  • Execute timely follow‑up on leads generated by the sales team, qualifying technical requirements and advancing opportunities through the sales pipeline.
  • Manage sales opportunities by conducting needs assessments, recommending appropriate measurement and instrumentation solutions (pressure, temperature, flow, level, analytical, etc.), and coordinating with internal resources as needed.
  • Develop accurate, competitive, and technically compliant quotes and proposals based on customer specifications, company pricing guidelines, and product capabilities.
  • Process and manage customer orders, including coordination with production, logistics, and finance teams to ensure on‑time delivery and accurate invoicing.
  • Provide post‑sales technical support, including application assistance, troubleshooting, installation guidance, and resolution of any delivery or performance issues.
  • Maintain detailed and up‑to‑date records of all customer interactions, technical specifications, quotes, orders, and support activities within the CRM system.
  • Collaborate closely with Account Managers, Key Account Managers, and Business Development personnel to support the full sales cycle and deliver seamless customer experiences.
  • Participate in technical reviews and internal handoffs to ensure alignment between customer requirements and company capabilities.
  • Contribute to sales targets by supporting efficient quote‑to‑order conversion rates and minimizing delays in the transactional sales process.
  • Stay current with product specifications, industry standards, and application best practices to provide reliable technical guidance to both internal teams and customers.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Solid technical aptitude and application engineering experience with measurement and instrumentation products or similar industrial technologies.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to respond promptly and professionally to technical inquiries and support needs.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills to handle multiple transactional opportunities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with sales colleagues, internal departments, and customers.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred), quotation tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic technical drawing or specification software.
  • Detail‑oriented approach with strong problem‑solving abilities to translate customer requirements into accurate quotes and workable solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while taking ownership of assigned tasks in the sales process.
  • Self‑motivated and reliable with a focus on execution, accuracy, and timely delivery of support activities.
  • Basic understanding of sales processes and the importance of contributing to overall revenue and customer satisfaction goals.
  • Willingness to continuously learn new products, applications, and industry developments in the measurement and instrumentation field.
Qualifications and Basic California Law Compliances
  • To qualify for, maintain, and excel in this role moving forward, the individual must meet the following:Bachelor’s degree in engineering - mechanical, electrical, chemical, or related field - or equivalent combination of technical education and relevant work experience required.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in application engineering, inside sales support, technical sales, or customer support within an industrial or instrumentation‑related industry.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States with the ability to provide required documentation for Form I‑9 employment eligibility verification.
  • Willing and able to successfully complete any post‑conditional‑offer background check, drug screening, or other verifications permitted under the California Fair Chance Act and applicable state law.
  • Maintain full compliance with all federal, state (including California), and local employment laws, regulations, and company policies, including wage and hour requirements, anti‑discrimination statutes, and workplace safety standards.
  • Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license if travel to customer sites or training is occasionally required.
  • Demonstrate ongoing adherence to industry‑specific quality and regulatory standards relevant to measurement and instrumentation products (e.g., ISO, NIST traceability awareness).
  • Commit to continuous learning and professional development to enhance technical expertise and support effectiveness.
