Job summary

Everforth Apex Systems is seeking a Business Systems Analyst for a remote, long-term contract. The role focuses on translating business needs into clear requirements, QA/testing, and data quality across planning, logistics, and commercial decision support.

The candidate will work with product owners, data engineers, data scientists, and software engineers to define data, acceptance criteria, and testing strategies, using SQL, Azure DevOps, and Power BI within an Agile framework.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Data Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Five or more years of relevant experience in business systems analysis, data analysis, QA, testing, or related discipline.
• Strong SQL skills for data profiling and validation; Azure DevOps for backlog/test management; Power BI and enterprise data platform familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Develop deliverables: business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and process maps.
• Partner with stakeholders to understand workflows and outcomes.
• Lead requirements elicitation via interviews, workshops, and process mapping.
• Translate data needs into backlog items for technical teams.
• Support Product Owner with backlog refinement, prioritization, and release planning.
• Identify data sources, definitions, and transformation rules with technical teams.
• Profile and analyze data using SQL to assess completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
• Document data mappings, lineage, business rules, and control points.
• Lead risk-based test strategies including functional, data, and user acceptance testing.
• Coordinate UAT with SMEs and document results.

Role Overview
This role serves as a delivery enabler for a product team, with an emphasis on data analysis, data quality, testing, and quality assurance. The analyst will translate business needs into clear requirements and acceptance criteria, help define and validate data, and coordinate end-to-end testing across various solutions. The position involves partnering with product owners, subject matter experts, data engineers, data scientists, and software engineers to support capabilities in planning, logistics, and commercial decision support.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop deliverables, including business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and process maps.
• Partner with business stakeholders to understand workflows, pain points, and desired outcomes.
• Lead requirements elicitation and analysis through interviews, workshops, and process mapping.
• Translate business and data needs into actionable backlog items for technical teams.
• Support the Product Owner with backlog refinement, prioritization, and release planning.
• Work with technical teams to identify data sources, business definitions, and transformation rules.
• Profile and analyze data using SQL to assess completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
• Document data mappings, lineage, business rules, and control points.
• Lead the development and execution of risk-based test strategies, including functional, data, and user acceptance testing.
• Coordinate user acceptance testing with business subject matter experts and document results.

Required Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Data Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience is required.

Experience: Five or more years of relevant experience in business systems analysis, data analysis, quality assurance, testing, or a related discipline is necessary. Experience translating business needs into requirements and user stories is also required.

Technical Skills: Strong SQL skills for data profiling and validation are required. Experience with Agile product teams using tools such as Azure DevOps for backlog and test management is necessary. Familiarity with reporting and analytical tools like Power BI and enterprise data platform environments is also required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in midstream oil and gas, value chain optimization, planning, scheduling, or logistics is preferred.
• Experience with ServiceNow and IT service management processes is also preferred.
