Summary

A boutique music operations company specializing in YouTube rights management, publishing royalties, and distribution for independent artists and labels is seeking a Business Affairs & Finance Operations professional. This fully remote, full-time independent contractor role owns the end-to-end process for client reporting, payments, advances, recoupments, and contracts — ensuring every client is paid accurately and on time, with statements that make sense.

Responsibilities

Reporting, Payments, Advances and Recoupment

• Receive and reconcile statements arriving from all distribution and publishing partners
• Sort incoming deposits between company revenue and client funds; apply splits correctly
• Produce clear reporting to clients detailing what they earned and what they were paid
• Set up recoupment schedules when advances are issued to clients; track balances until fully recouped; ensure client statements reflect current standing
• Run regular audits to confirm no payments owed to clients have been missed
• Chase partners when reports are wrong or late; redesign processes when recurring issues arise

Contracts

• Draft agreements and amendments from existing templates; send for signature, track execution, file executed documents, and maintain current records
• Handle legal and mechanical contract terms, and serve as point of contact with counterparties when needed
• Recognize when outside counsel is required and engage them accordingly

Client and Internal Inquiries

• Respond directly to client and internal team questions about payments and contracts
• Route certain inquiries through client relationship managers as appropriate

Qualifications

• Background in business affairs, contracts, or royalties at a label, publisher, management company, or entertainment law firm
• A paralegal certificate, law degree (non-practicing), or in-house contracts experience is acceptable; legal advice is not part of this role
• Demonstrated experience owning a financial process end-to-end and improving its reliability
• Strong attention to detail — will not let a number discrepancy go unresolved
• Clear, plain-language written communication skills; client-facing correspondence must be understandable on first read
• Self-directed and proactive: tracks all open items independently and surfaces potential delays before deadlines are missed
• Comfortable working with AI tools for internal workflows
• This is an individual contributor role with no team to manage

Salary: $75,000.00-$80,000.00, plus bonus
