Job summary

Conway Public School District is seeking a Bus Mechanic I to inspect and maintain district school buses, ensuring compliance with Arkansas state standards. The role requires a high school diploma, diesel maintenance experience, tire inspection knowledge, and the ability to obtain CDL endorsements within the first year.

The Bus Mechanic I will support the Transportation Shop's daily operations, perform preventive maintenance, and help prioritize repairs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience with diesel engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul.
• Knowledge of tire inspection.
• Ability to inspect school buses to Arkansas state standards.
• CDL with passenger, school bus, and air brakes endorsements or plan to obtain CDL within the first year.

Responsibilities

• Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
• Conducts routine inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs on other fleet vehicles.
• Performs maintenance and operation of equipment.
• Prioritizes mechanical failures.
• Inventories parts, tools, and equipment.
• Maintains all shop areas.
• Remain updated on safety regulations, recalls, and best practices in fleet maintenance.
• Keeps and maintains shop records and reports.
• Available for transportation problems that may arise after normal working hours.
• Other duties, as assigned.

Terms Of Employment

The contract length will be 240 days.

Evaluation

Based on local district policy and Arkansas Department of Education guidelines, and performed by the transportation supervisor.

Job Goal

The Bus Mechanic I will endeavor to assist the transportation supervisor with everyday operations of the Transportation Shop.
