Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining the school bus transportation fleet and other vehicles.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on school system vehicles.
  • Maintain service records for vehicles.
  • Complies with Cultural Diversity Guidelines in dealing with students, parents, coworkers and the public.
  • Complies with all safety standards for vehicle maintenance as prescribed by DOT.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Maintains and reports motor fuel needs and consumption; reports to supervisor.
  • Assists with inventory and procurement of shop supplies, tools and equipment.
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on all vehicles to ensure high operating efficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Primary Function

To assist the mechanic with maintaining the school bus transportation fleet and other school system vehicles and motorized equipment in a condition that promotes safety and ensures operational excellence at all times.

Requirements
  • Educational Level: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certification/Licensing: CDL driver’s license.
  • Proficiency Skills: Experience in the maintenance of diesel and gasoline engines preferred; written and oral communication skills.
  • Personal Skills: Pleasant personality, cooperative attitude, physical skills and stamina to perform essential duties.
  • Salary: CCSS Classified Salary Schedule – A08, 240 days.
Responsibilities
  1. Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance.

  8. Participates in appropriate training, workshops and staff development activities and applies what is learned to the job; accepts new challenges in a professional manner.
  9. Shows initiative and assumes responsibility for all aspects of job responsibilities; performs routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision.

  11. Performs and/or supervises all repairs made on school system vehicles and other equipment with gasoline or diesel engines.
  12. Assists with the maintenance of all service of system vehicles.
  13. Assists with vehicle maintenance records as required or needed.
  14. Complies with all safety standards for low vehicle maintenance as prescribed by DOT.
  15. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  16. Maintains and records motor fuel needs and consumption. Makes reports to the supervisor.
  17. Assists with inventory and recommends purchase of necessary shop supplies, tools and equipment.
  18. Conducts scheduled preventative maintenance program on all vehicles ensuring a high level of operating efficiency at all times.
  19. Demonstrates loyalty to the school system and administrators.
  20. Enhances the climate of the building and the morale of colleagues.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
