Job summary

TARC in Louisville, KY is seeking a Part-time Mechanic Apprentice to learn and perform mechanical repairs under supervision. You will support TARC Mechanics, assist with vehicle maintenance, and contribute to safe, reliable bus operations.

Responsibilities include diagnosing simple vehicle issues, requesting parts, using shop tools, and following safety procedures. A High School Diploma or GED and a valid KY/IN driver’s license are required; CDL experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid KY/IN driver’s license and CDL permit; CDL experience preferred.
  • Must read, follow instructions and communicate effectively (written and verbally).
  • Must pass a physical (medical) examination including a drug screen to operate TARC vehicles.
  • Successful performance on pre-employment tests.

Responsibilities

  • Complete state apprenticeship requirements surrounding classroom and on-the-job training.
  • Assist mechanics with lifting and maintenance tasks.
  • Diagnose and investigate vehicle issues for repair.
  • Determine course of action to facilitate repair and part replacement.
  • Maintain and repair bus systems for operational fitness.
  • Disassemble simple components and clean parts for reassembly.
  • Request parts and tools for mechanics as needed.
