Job summary

Transit Authority Of Lexington-Faye is seeking a skilled individual for a full-time maintenance role in Lexington, KY. The successful candidate will operate shop equipment, perform repairs on buses including air brakes, and assist with maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical repairs and troubleshoot using schematics.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections on equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Operates welders, bus lifts, and various types of shop equipment
  • Must be familiar with S cam air brakes
  • Assist an A‑Mechanic by providing the maintenance and service of heavy‑duty air conditioning systems
  • Electrical repairs/troubleshooting utilizing bus schematics, wiring diagrams, and a variety of testing equipment
  • Maintain and repair suspension, steering, and drive‑line components
  • Preventative maintenance and inspections for all equipment such as engine tune‑ups, oil changes, tire rotation, wheel balancing, and replacing filters
  • Support Maintenance Supervisors in responding to events such as ‘10‑31’ or Road Calls to ensure the fleet is ready for service
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and Maintenance Supervisors
  • Maintain effective communication with all staff to ensure continuity of care
  • Assist with identifying areas for improvement and making constructive changes
  • Understand all aspects of the company and keep abreast of changing policies and procedures
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and Maintenance Supervisors

  • Must be familiar with air brakes (S cam or similar)
  • Familiar with operation of welders, bus lifts, and other shop equipment
  • Ability to read, interpret safety documents, blueprints, schematics, and other mechanical diagrams
Education and Experience Requirements
  • (2) years of heavy diesel maintenance experience is preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a required Commercial Driver’s License (training is provided)
  • Must pass United States Department of Transportation physical and drug screen
  • High School diploma/equivalent or combination of education and experience
  • After completing one year of continuous service with Lextran, obtaining a 609 AC certification and completing four ASE Transit certifications, B‑Mechanics are eligible to become an A‑Mechanic at the rate described in the current Labor Agreement
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently exposed to overhead reaching, pushing/pulling, and gripping tools
  • May be required to stoop, bend, kneel, or climb
  • Occasionally lifts objects weighing 5–50 lbs. but not limited to 115 lbs.
  • Frequently uses hands/fingers to manipulate parts and equipment by utilizing operating tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and other tools to successfully perform essential job‑related tasks on a daily basis
  • Frequently exposed to extreme heat and cold
  • Must inspect buses by test‑driving them regularly
  • Occasionally operates a sit‑down forklift
  • Frequently exposed to fumes, odors, hazardous materials, dirt, and dust
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed
