Job summary

TARC in Louisville, KY is seeking a Mechanic Pre-Apprentice to join our maintenance team. This part-time training role supports learning to perform mechanical repairs and shop tasks under supervision, with emphasis on safety and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities include assisting mechanics, diagnosing simple vehicle issues, preparing parts, and following apprenticeship requirements through classroom and on-the-job training.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a High School auto program and able to read and follow instructions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
• Pass a physical examination including a drug screen.
• Able to lift up to 75 pounds and operate basic shop tools safely.

Responsibilities

• Complete state apprenticeship requirements through classroom and on-the-job training.
• Assist mechanics with lifting and moving parts and other maintenance tasks.
• Diagnose and investigate vehicle components to identify causes of defects.
• Prepare parts, check fluid levels, and keep shop areas clean and organized.
• Follow safety procedures and operate buses and related equipment as needed.
