Job summary

Pearland ISD seeks a dedicated school bus driver to transport students safely to school and on extracurricular trips. You will help with boarding and deboarding and maintain order during trips, following all district policies.

The role requires an 18+ driver with a valid Class B CDL, DPS certification, and the ability to pass required physicals and drug tests. English literacy is essential for daily communication.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Class B Texas CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
• Current Texas DPS School Bus Driver Certification.
• Must be 18 years old.
• Able to pass annual physical and fitness exam per DPS.
• Able to pass random drug and alcohol tests as required by federal law.
• Proficient reading, writing and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, orderly, and efficient transportation of students to and from school and on extracurricular trips.
• Assist with student boarding and exit and maintain discipline as assigned.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report any maintenance needs.

Licenses And Certifications

• Valid Class B Texas Commercial Driver's License with passenger and school bus endorsements
• Current Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
• Must maintain an acceptable driving record for school bus drivers as defined by Texas Department of Public Safety
• Must be able to pass an annual physical and mental examination as required by Texas Department of Public Safety
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screening as required by federal law
• Must be able to proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English

Experience

• Experience working with children preferred but not required
• Experience as a school bus driver preferred but not required

Working Conditions

• Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control; ability to communicate effectively; ability to maintain effective control over groups of students
• Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Must be physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to perform evacuation procedures; continuous sitting, reaching, bending; repetitive hand and arm motions; work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (heat); exposure to vehicle fumes. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
