Job summary

Pearland ISD in Texas is seeking a qualified School Bus Driver to transport students to and from school and on extracurricular trips. The role requires a valid Texas CDL Class B with passenger and school bus endorsements, plus DPS School Bus Driver Certification, and the ability to communicate in English.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, orderly, and efficient transportation for students to and from school and on extracurricular trips.
• Operate school bus on routes and extracurricular trips as scheduled.
• Assist with safety procedures and evacuations when needed.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform basic inspections and routine maintenance.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provide safe, orderly, and efficient transportation of students to and from school and on extracurricular trips.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid Class B Texas Commercial Driver's License with passenger and school bus endorsements
• Current Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
• Must maintain an acceptable driving record for school bus drivers as defined by Texas Department of Public Safety
• Must be able to pass an annual physical and mental examination as required by Texas Department of Public Safety
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screening as required by federal law
• Must be able to proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English

Experience:

• Experience working with children preferred but not required
• Experience as a school bus driver preferred but not required

Maintain emotional control; ability to communicate effectively; ability to maintain effective control over groups of students

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Must be physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to perform evacuation procedures; continuous sitting, reaching, bending; repetitive hand and arm motions; work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (heat); exposure to vehicle fumes. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
