Job summary

Pearland ISD provides transportation services for students to and from school as well as on extracurricular trips. The driver must ensure safety, follow procedures, and manage student conduct during transit.

Required qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, a valid Class B Texas CDL with passenger/school bus endorsements, and Texas DPS School Bus Driver Certification; knowledge of English is essential.

Valid Class B Texas Commercial Driver's License with passenger and school bus endorsements

Current Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills

Must be 18 years of age

Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions

Must maintain an acceptable driving record for school bus drivers as defined by Texas Department of Public Safety

Must be able to pass an annual physical and mental examination as required by Texas Department of Public Safety

Must be able to pass a pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screening as required by federal law

Must be able to proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English

Experience

Experience working with children preferred but not required

Experience as a school bus driver preferred but not required

Maintain emotional control; ability to communicate effectively; ability to maintain effective control over groups of students

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Must be physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to perform evacuation procedures; continuous sitting, reaching, bending; repetitive hand and arm motions; work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (heat); exposure to vehicle fumes. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
