Job summary

The YMCA of South Alabama is seeking a part-time Bus Driver to safely transport participants to and from YMCA programs, schools, and community locations in Daphne, AL. The role emphasizes punctuality, safety, and upholding YMCA values.

Responsibilities include pre-trip and post-trip inspections, accurate logs, and effective communication with staff. Candidates must meet licensing, background, and health/safety certification requirements and possess a valid CDL if applicable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required if applicable to vehicle type.
• Previous professional driving experience preferred.
• Ability to pass background checks, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening per ALDOT.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).

Position Summary

The Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting YMCA participants to and from YMCA programs, schools, and community locations. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, punctuality, and positive experience of all riders while modeling the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Essential Functions

• Safely operate YMCA vehicles in compliance with all state and local traffic laws
• Transport program participants to and from designated locations according to assigned schedules
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly
• Ensure proper supervision and safe behavior of passengers during transport

Physical Demands

• Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle
• Ability to assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations
