Job summary

The Rapid, a Grand Rapids-based transit provider, is seeking a Transit Vehicle Technician - Body Shop. You will perform body and mechanical repairs on gasoline, diesel, and alternative-fuel buses, using hand/tools, maintaining records, and ensuring safety compliance.

Training for CDL Class B with Passenger/Airbrake endorsements is provided on first shift for ~90 days. Competitive hourly pay and benefits offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One or more years of vocation or technical schooling or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to obtain Michigan Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Passenger and Airbrake Endorsement (training provided).
• Possess a valid Michigan Driver's license with <4 points and no suspensions in 36 months.
• Meet and maintain DOT physical examination requirements including drug and alcohol screening.
• Basic computer skills with ability to learn new programs.

Responsibilities

• Perform a full range of body and mechanical repairs on buses and related vehicles.
• Operate hand and power tools to repair or paint vehicle surfaces.
• Maintain and create records in electronic repair orders.
• Raise equipment for inspection and repair using hoists and jacks.
• Inspect vehicle damage and prepare cost estimates for parts and labor.
• Prime and paint surfaces; remove and repair damaged sections.
• Fabricate, weld, cut and grind as needed for repairs.
• Test drive vehicles to diagnose Malfunctions and verify repairs.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
