Job summary

GRTC in Richmond, VA seeks a dedicated Body Shop Mechanic to maintain fleet appearance and structural integrity across paratransit and fixed-route buses. You will repair panels, replace glass, prep for paint, and perform preventive inspections while upholding safety and quality standards.

Position requires hands-on welding (MIG/TIG/torch) and a CDL Class B Learner’s permit with P endorsement; you will work both independently and with a team in a dynamic urban transit environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of technical or vocational training in vehicle body repair.
• Experience with Mig, Tig and acetylene torch welding helpful.
• 6 months to 1 year experience in body repair and sheet metal work preferred.
• Experience with hand-held power tools used in vehicle body repair required.
• Must have a CDL Class B Learner's permit with P endorsement prior to start.

Responsibilities

• Repair metal panels by bumping out dents and applying body filler.
• Install new body panels by riveting and welding.
• Replace body glass, mirrors and repair floor coverings.
• Assist in overall body and seat repair and paint prep.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections on wheelchair lifts and doors.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area; operate agency vehicles safely.
• Work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
