Corpus Christi Independent School District is seeking a Student Attendant to assist in providing safe transportation for special needs students. You will work under the supervision of the Supervisor for Special Needs Operations and help ensure secure seating and proper handling of assistive devices.

Role requires strong communication, behavior management, and emergency readiness, with emphasis on safety, punctuality, and teamwork across school staff and families.

Qualifications

  • Pass required annual physical, criminal record check and a drug screen.
  • Able to operate special needs equipment.
  • Ability to manage student behavior.
  • Ability to administer basic first aid, per qualifications.
  • Friendly but firm with students, parents, staff and the public.
  • Emotionally stable.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Good reading/writing English.
  • Ability to deal with emergencies.
  • Ability to evacuate a bus via rear emergency door.

Responsibilities

  • Reach confined areas when securing wheel chairs and equipment.
  • Position and secure adaptive devices and occupants as seating specialist.
  • Work cooperatively with staff, principals, teachers, students, parents and the community.
  • Follow the operational rules of the Office of Transportation.
  • Follow district policies.
  • Safely transport students on bus routes, field trips and late runs.
  • Obey all bus operation rules.
  • Perform safety checks and bus cleaning duties.
  • Complete and submit required reports.
  • Complete required training courses.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor.

  • Ability to evacuate a bus under emergency conditions and demonstrate the ability to do so without physical harm by quickly entering and exiting the rear emergency door.
Function

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor for Special Needs Operations, the student attendant will assist in providing safe transportation for special needs students.

Reports To:

Operations Supervisor

Responsibilities:
  • Be able to reach confined areas when securing/positioning wheel chairs, etc.
  • Serve as a seating specialist in positioning and securing adaptive and assistive devices and occupants
  • Work considerately with fellow workers, principals, teachers, students, parents and other community members.
  • Follow the operational rules and guidelines of the Office of Transportation.
  • Follow the policies of the school district.
  • Safely and per established schedule, assist in transporting students on bus routes, field trips and late runs, regardless of their location and day of the week.
  • Obey all rules and regulations regarding the operation of a school bus.
  • Perform required safety checks and bus cleaning duties.
  • Properly complete and submit required reports.
  • Successfully complete all required training courses.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned by a supervisor.

Salary: AUX/602: $13.15 minimum/hour (individual salary calculation is based on applicable experience)
