Job summary

Shenandoah County Public Schools Transportation in Woodstock, Virginia is seeking a Substitute Bus Aide to support Special Needs students during transit. The role involves safety supervision, assisting with boarding/exiting, and ensuring proper use of adaptive equipment on daily routes.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned

• Student Safety & Supervision: Monitor student behavior, enforce rules, and maintain an orderly environment during transit.
• Loading & Unloading: Assist passengers boarding and exiting the vehicle, including operating wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement systems.
• Adaptive Equipment: Properly fasten 5 Point harnesses, Safety Vests, and wheelchair tie-downs according to specific safety protocols.
• Medical & Emergency Support : Respond to behavioral changes, medical episodes (such as seizures), or emergencies, and assist with bus evacuation procedures as outlined by guidelines.
• Communication : Coordinate with bus drivers, parents, transportation, and school staff regarding student needs or behavioral incidents.
• Recordkeeping: Complete daily medicaid sheets, seating charts, and incident reports
