Description:

Performs work assisting with the transportation of students to and from schools, and other special events. Assists disabled and impaired students getting on and off the bus or in and out of a van including lifting, folding, unfolding, positioning, and securing wheelchairs and other restraint devices; maintains safe conditions during operation.

Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of a high school diploma or GED. Have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with students and drivers; concern for the well‑being of, and desire to assist general education students and/or students with disabilities; ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with fellow workers, students, and parents; sufficient strength and agility to move, lift, and secure students and equipment and assist students with entering and exiting a bus, van or another vehicle in regular and emergency situations. Among the essential functions of this job are regular attendance, and punctuality in reporting to work.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:

Providing help to the school bus driver in maintaining discipline; assisting students boarding and leaving the school bus.

  • Ability to interact positively with, gain the respect of, and maintain discipline over student passengers to ensure that behavior is controlled and not distractive to safe driving.
  • Assist with loading, transporting, and unloading of general education or Special Education students on assigned buses or vans.
  • Assists with the security of students on vehicles and observes the special needs of individuals.
  • Assists with any special transportation needs such as wheelchairs, braces, safety harnesses, etc.
  • Ability to work with school bus drivers in managing all riders.
  • Understanding of safe, proper, and courteous motor vehicle operating procedures.
  • Ability to read, understand, and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Among the essential functions of this job is regular attendance, punctuality in reporting to work, and timely submission of attendance and leave requests.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of the transportation of students; some knowledge of transporting students; ability to assist students with patience and understanding; good physical and mental health; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students and the general public.

Position Type: Part-Time

Salary: $14.25 Per Hour
