Job summary

College of Southern Nevada seeks a Part-Time Building Trades Instructor to deliver classroom, lab, and hands-on instruction across building trades. The role supports workforce education by creating competency-based materials and preparing students for NCCER, OSHA, and First Aid/CPR credentials.

Instruction may occur at multiple off-site locations, emphasizing safety, professionalism, and student success. Minimum qualifications include a GED and 5+ years in building trades, plus strong mentoring

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the building or construction trades.
• Demonstrated expertise in carpentry, construction, framing, or related skilled trades.
• Working knowledge of OSHA construction safety standards.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to effectively teach and mentor adult learners from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction in building trades including: Construction Fundamentals, Carpentry, Residential and Commercial Construction, Blueprint Reading, Framing, Drywall Installation and Repair, Finish Carpentry, Construction Materials, Construction Mathematics, Tool Identification and Safe Use, OSHA Construction Safety.
• Develop lesson plans and competency-based instructional materials aligned with industry standards.
• Prepare students for nationally recognized industry credentials including NCCER Core, OSHA 10/30, and First Aid/CPR certifications.
• Maintain a safe instructional environment by enforcing OSHA regulations and PPE.
• Assess student learning and provide timely feedback and coaching.
• Collaborate with local contractors, employers, labor organizations, apprenticeship programs, and workforce partners to meet industry demand.
• Assist with recruitment, retention, completion, and employment placement efforts.
