Job Description

The Part-Time Building Trades Instructor provides high-qualityclassroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction that preparesstudents for employment and advancement in the constructionindustry. The instructor delivers competency-based training alignedwith industry standards, employer needs, and nationally recognizedcredentials while fostering a culture of safety, professionalism,and student success. Instruction may occur in classrooms,construction laboratories, employer worksites, correctionalfacilities, community training centers, and other off-siteinstructional locations.

This position supports the College of Southern Nevada's Division ofWorkforce Education by developing and delivering short-termworkforce training, customized employer training,pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, and career pathway programs inthe building and construction trades.

This position may require that a criminal background check beconducted on the candidate(s) selected for hire.

As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.

Essential Responsibilities

  • OSHA Construction Safety
  • Develop lesson plans and competency-based instructional materials aligned with industry standards.
  • Prepare students for nationally recognized industry credentialsincluding NCCER Core, OSHA 10/30, and First Aid/CPR certifications.
  • Maintain a safe instructional environment by enforcing OSHA regulations and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback and coaching.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, certification records,and other required documentation.
  • Collaborate with local contractors, employers, labororganizations, apprenticeship programs, and workforce partners toensure training meets industry demand.
  • Assist with student recruitment, retention, completion, and employment placement efforts.
  • Maintain instructional equipment, laboratories, tools, and supply inventories.
  • Participate in curriculum development and continuous programimprovement initiatives.
  • Support grant-funded workforce training and customized employertraining programs.
  • Participate in professional development to remain current withconstruction methods, technologies, building codes, andinstructional best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the building or construction trades.
  • Demonstrated expertise in carpentry, construction, framing, or related skilled trades.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction safety standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively teach and mentor adult learners fromdiverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management,Building Construction, Workforce Education, or a relatedfield.
  • Experience teaching in a community college, apprenticeship, union training, military, or workforce development setting.
  • Experience developing competency-based curriculum.
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (Canvas orequivalent).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with employers and industry advisory committees.
Preferred Industry Credentials:
  • NCCER Instructor Certification
  • NCCER Core Certification
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Journey-level certification or state licensure in a construction trade
