Job summary

JLL is seeking an Operating Engineer in Reston, VA to support government facilities. You will operate, maintain, and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems, coordinating with contractors and handling emergencies to ensure safe, efficient operations.

The role requires 4+ years in electrical or HVAC trades, a valid US driver’s license, and strong problem-solving and safety awareness. On-site schedule Mon-Fri; on-call as needed. 75,500–87,360 USD/year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in the electrical trade or HVAC/refrigeration trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work safely using proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Physical ability to walk, climb, bend, kneel, lift, and perform overhead work regularly.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate and maintain facility systems in compliance with government regulations and safety standards.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems.
• Monitor building equipment performance, record operational data, and make adjustments to maintain optimal efficiency.
• Respond to service requests and emergency maintenance situations in a timely and professional manner.
• Conduct facility inspections, identify potential hazards, and support adherence to safety procedures and protocols.
• Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside contractors to ensure quality and cost expectations are met.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours, weekend, and holiday support as needed.
