What does a Building Substitute at Prospect Hill do? The Building Substitute is expected to deliver with fidelity an existing lesson that has been created by the classroom teacher. In doing so, the Building Sub should be able to ensure that the classroom environment is safe and productive. The building sub is expected to uphold the campus discipline system when classroom situations emerge that require a disciplinary response. The Building Substitute provides a unique opportunity for an individual who has future aspirations to become a full classroom teacher.

During periods that the building sub is not called on to cover classes, the building sub will be provided opportunities to expand his/her professional growth through:

  • Small group interventions with selected students
  • Observations of veteran teachers
  • Participation in content area collaborative inquiry or common planning
  • Assisting with relevant administrative tasks

  • Adheres to and upholds school rules and procedures.
  • Reflects positively on the PHA community.
  • Fulfills basic professional responsibilities.

What Knowledge, Skills, and Experiences are needed for this role?

  • Understanding of and familiarity with Massachusetts Curriculum Framework
  • Bachelors Degree (MA preferred)
  • Massachusetts licensure (preferred)
  • Science background (preferred)
