Custodial Experience & Equipment Use
  • Proficiency with custodial tools like vacuum cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, T-1 scrubbers, and other small machines
  • Experience with specialized floor care equipment for tasks like carpet extraction, stripping/waxing, and refinishing wood floors
  • Experience with floor care with large, specialized floor care equipment: carpet cleaning and extraction, strip/wax/burnish floors, refinish wood floors, etc.
Soft Skills & Availability

Position Summary

The Building Services Worker II duties are inclusive of those of the BSW I; sweeps, dust mop, wet mop, dusts, high dusts, light floor care. Cleans windows, window sills, walls, furniture, and other equipment in and around university buildings and grounds. Collects and removes bulk quantities of trash and recyclables. Secures and unlocks university buildings. Delivers, receives, and transports miscellaneous supplies and materials to and from various buildings. Performs cleaning and disinfection on surfaces such as: glass, windows, doors, electrical switches, Venetian blinds, and other building related equipment in classrooms, restrooms, administrative buildings, recreational and fitness building, laboratories, medical clinics, etc. Maintains adequate supplies in restrooms and janitorial closets. May be needed to perform bodily fluid clean-up or specialized viral/bacterial disinfection. Performs minor light bulb replacement from an 8' ladder. In addition, the BSWII performs floor care with large specialized floor care equipment: carpet cleaning and extraction, strip / wax / burnish floors, refinish wood floors, etc. Responsible to the safe operation and operator level maintenance of assigned equipment. Responsible for building walk-through inspections on weekly basis, assist with equipment inspections of building cleaning machine and tools, and the submission of building and/or equipment inspection form to lead/supervisor.

Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 40 lbs, push or pull custodial carts up to 40 lbs.

  • Frequently bend, squat, lift, kneel, and work with hands above head
  • Move throughout buildings to include climbing stairs and riding elevators to perform work.
  • Work from 8' ladders.
  • Travel to, to include walking to, building in area of responsibility.

Responsibilities

Performs floor care with large specialized floor care equipment: carpet cleaning and extraction, strip / wax burnish floors, refinish wood floors, etc. Responsible to the safe operation and operator level maintenance of assigned equipment.

Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities

Sweeps, dusts. washes, wet / dry mops, light floor maintenance, vacuums, and performs other duties as needed to maintain cleanliness of campus floors.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

Collect and remove trash and recyclables, clean and disinfect counters, restrooms fixtures, equipment, and furnishings and performs other duties as needed to maintain the cleanliness of laboratories, office areas, classrooms, restrooms,clinics, recreational facilities, and / or assigned work areas.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

Cleans and restocks restrooms.Ensures adequate stock of resupply items are in janitorial closets.

Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities

Performs bodily fluid clean-up or specialized viral / bacterial disinfection. Perform minor light bulb replacement from an 8' ladder. Performs related responsibilities as needed.

Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities

Conduct walk-through area/building inspections for cleanliness, conduct cleaning equipment inspection for safety hazards, and completes inspection reports to submit to lead/supervisor.
