Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications UHC Minimum: Minimum 1-year related work experience required.

Position Summary

The part-time Building Service Worker is a key member of the Facilities Maintenance department and reports to the Building Services Supervisor. The Building Services Worker performs manual work in a variety of cleaning and related duties in the University Health Center (UHC), including exam rooms, restrooms, conference rooms, and offices. The work of this position involves the performance of cleaning in an assigned building area. The primary responsibility of this position is the effective use of proper methods and materials in cleaning and caring for building areas and equipment. This individual works under close supervision and follows well established routines, procedures, and infection control standards.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Must possess the ability to read, write and understand written and/oral instructions.

Physical Demands
  • This position requires sustained physical activity, including the ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform frequent movements such as reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and twisting.
  • The role necessitates working from heights using a 3- or 6-foot stepladder and maintaining balance and coordination.
  • Employees must be able to push and pull equipment and perform tasks that require working on their knees for prolonged periods.
  • The position also requires regular lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Duties/Responsibilities

General cleaning

  • Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes conference rooms, restrooms, exam rooms, offices, housekeeping equipment daily or as instructed, sinks, counter tops, mirrors, and water fountains.
  • Polishes furniture, doors, chrome, stainless steel, etc.
  • Washes, cleans, and disinfects walls as needed in assigned areas.
  • Vacuums conference rooms, hallways, and offices.
  • Performs scheduled dusting (high, low, horizontal, and vertical) to assigned areas daily and as instructed.
  • Dusts blinds, vents, and other surfaces where dust accumulates.

Trash Collection

  • Collects trash from assigned work areas.
  • Disposes of trash in designated containers or collection sites.

Percentage of time 20

Floor Maintenance

  • Performs assigned floor care duties.
  • Scrubs floors and perform wet mop, and dust mopping
  • Cleans carpet as needed.

Percentage of time 20

Stocking

  • Replenishes supplies such as toilet tissue, paper towels, soap, deodorizers, etc.
  • Maintains work carts and storage closets clean, organized, and fully stocked.
