Job summary

City of New York’s Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) Division of Energy Management seeks an Associate Engineer for Building Optimization in New York City. You will work under the DEM Operations Unit, guiding building controls projects and aligning with multiple City agencies and contractors.

The role emphasizes technical oversight, project management, and performance tracking to reduce energy use while improving building operations across City facilities.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or mechatronics plus one year of full‑time satisfactory mechanical engineering experience; or
• A baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering technology with three years of experience; or
• A bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.

Responsibilities

• Support the Engineering team with the management of a portfolio of highly technical building controls projects, including scoping, budgets, and inspections.
• Provide technical oversight by reviewing controls design drawings, project scope and costs, energy savings calculations, and advanced technologies.
• Monitor and report project-level KPIs, including completion rates, budget variances, and GHG reductions; maintain tracking.
• Coordinate with City agencies and building controls contractors to drive project management and set clear expectations.
• Assist in expanding a City-wide building optimization program focused on preventative maintenance and advanced analytics for energy efficiency.
