Job summary

University of North Carolina Charlotte in Charlotte, NC seeks a Building Operations Assistant for the Atkins Library. This is a non-student temporary, part-time role (29 hours/week) with a flexible weekday schedule.

Primary duties include daily library operations, light maintenance, moves, and event setups to ensure a clean, safe, and well-organized environment. Applicants should have a High School diploma and be comfortable using power/hand tools; valid driver's license for pickups/deliveries

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the library daily operations including recycling, painting, changing lights, replacing ceiling tiles, mail room coverage, moving furniture, book donations pickups and deliveries on and off campus, cleaning furniture, repairing furniture, responding to emergency leaks, carpet spot cleaning and replacement, window cleaning, elevator track cleaning, office cleaning, special event setup, computer and printer setup, maintain safe and well organized storage areas, relocate personnel within the building and assist with fixed assets.
  • Clean and maintains all equipment used to upkeep the Library.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Building Operations Assistant
  • *Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Worker's Compensation provisions.
  • Part-time temporary positions do not offer healthcare benefits, leave accrual (paid time off), or retirement entitlement (state service).
  • Full-time temporary positions do not offer leave accrual (paid time off), or retirement entitlement (state service) benefits. *However, full-time temporary employees are eligible to participate in a High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).
  • *Part-time temporary positions do not offer healthcare benefits, leave accrual (paid time off), or retirement entitlement (state service).
  • Full-time temporary positions do not offer leave accrual (paid time off), or retirement entitlement (state service) benefits.
  • Per PIM 8 temporary employees with scheduled hours of between 20 to 40 hours a week can only work up to a 24-months schedule. (A mandatory 31 day break must be taken at this time, then they can return for a reassignment if the department chooses to).
  • However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week on an average for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions or designated as variable hour worker - i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods.
  • *Special Notes Regarding Eligibility for the High Deductible Health Plan
  • Temporary hourly workers (eligibility based on FTE, duration of more than 30 days) FTE .75+ (cumulative of all jobs) or measured full-time, offered the high deductible health insurance
