Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. is seeking a Mid-Level Building Mechanical Engineer (Water) in California to join our Infrastructure Design Department.

You will design HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and central utilities for water and wastewater projects, mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with architects and vendors. You will apply ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, IBC and IECC standards, perform load and energy analyses, prepare drawings and calculations, and support field staff during

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive building mechanical engineering and project delivery experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within one year.
• Strong data analysis, problem-solving, organizational skills, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Design complete HVAC systems, including package type and central plants, using codes and standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, IBC, IECC.
• Design HVAC control systems integrated with SCADA and building management systems.
• Design plumbing systems including potable distribution, drainage, and utilities.
• Design fire protection systems using a performance-based approach.
• Perform HVAC load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, energy analyses, and energy compliance with RESCHECK/COMCHECK.
• Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, basis of design reports, and vendor coordination.
• Conduct field evaluations and develop as-built drawings.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with architects, engineers, and technicians.
