Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Mid-Level Building Mechanical Engineer in California to join our Infrastructure Design team. You will design building mechanical systems for water and wastewater projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

You will also perform load calculations, prepare design documents, and support field activities during construction. A PE or eligibility within one year is preferred, with strong data analysis, problem-solving, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive building mechanical engineering and project delivery experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within one year.
• Motivation, strong data analysis skills, technical problem-solving ability, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Design complete HVAC systems and central plants using applicable codes and standards.
• Design HVAC control systems with integration to SCADA and building management systems.
• Design plumbing systems including potable and drainage distributions.
• Design fire protection systems using a performance-based approach.
• Perform HVAC load, duct, and pipe sizing calculations and energy analyses.
• Prepare plumbing calculations including water and pump sizing.
• Produce detailed design drawings and specifications and coordinate with vendors.
• Conduct field evaluations and develop as-built drawings.
• Lead and coordinate with architects, engineers, and technicians; mentor juniors.
• Manage project budgets and schedules, and interface with clients and contractors.
