Job summary

Jacobs, based in California, is seeking a Mid-Level Building Mechanical Engineer to join the Infrastructure Design team. You will design HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for water, wastewater, and industrial facilities, collaborating with architects, engineers, and clients.

You will lead calculations, prepare drawings and specs, mentor junior staff, manage budgets, and support field teams during construction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive building mechanical engineering and project delivery experience.
  • PE license or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Strong data analysis, problem-solving, organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Design complete HVAC systems, central plants, and related equipment per codes and standards.
  • Design plumbing systems, including potable distribution, drainage, and related utilities.
  • Design fire protection systems using a performance-based approach.
  • Perform calculations for HVAC loads, duct/pipe sizing, energy analyses, and RESCHECK/COMCHECK compliance.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, basis of design, and coordination with vendors and field staff.
  • Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with architects, engineers, and clients.
  • Lead meetings with clients, vendors, and project stakeholders and manage project budgets and schedules.
