Job summary

Jacobs in California is seeking a Mid-Level Building Mechanical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Design Department. You will design HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and central utilities for water and wastewater projects, mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with architects and clients.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in mechanical engineering, 5+ years of experience, a PE license or ability to obtain within one year, and strong problem-solving and data analysis skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive building mechanical engineering and project delivery experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Motivation, strong data analysis skills, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Design and evaluate HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for buildings.
  • Perform HVAC loads calculations, duct and pipe sizing, energy analyses, and energy compliance using RESCHECK/COMCHECK.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and basis of design reports.
  • Conduct field evaluations and develop as-built drawings.
  • Coordinate work with architects, engineers and technicians; mentor junior engineers.
  • Lead client, vendor, and project team meetings to define needs and issues.
  • Manage project budgets and schedule; ensure quality and timely delivery.
  • Support field staff during construction and respond to submittal reviews and RFIs.
