Job summary

WSP is seeking an early career Building Mechanical Engineer in our Philadelphia, PA office. You will assist in designing mechanical systems for commercial and institutional projects, contributing to HVAC, plumbing, and building services with close supervision.

You will develop calculations, help with energy analyses, and generate concise project documentation while adhering to safety and quality standards. This role offers hands-on growth within the Property and Buildings Team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of Building Engineer post-education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • General understanding of mechanical engineering as applied in the design of building systems and large capital projects.
  • Familiarity with building codes, laws, regulations, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with engineers and non-engineering audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data relating to mechanical building systems, equipment selection, energy performance, utility coordination, and applicable building codes and standards.
  • Assist with performing basic professional mechanical engineering work relating to the design of HVAC, plumbing, and building mechanical systems in conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction permits.
  • Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements, equipment sizing, ductwork and piping systems, ventilation strategies, and sustainable design initiatives.
  • Assist with verifying site characteristics and providing basic technical assistance on engineering, design testing, maintenance, and construction procedures and issues.
  • Under close supervision, develop mechanical calculations for heating and cooling loads, ventilation requirements, equipment sizing, duct and pipe sizing, and energy performance analysis.
  • Generate complete, accurate documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field logs.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Adhere to company code of conduct and policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
