County of Fresno is seeking a Building Maintenance Engineer to install, maintain, and repair a wide variety of mechanical equipment across county facilities. This journey-level position requires using appropriate procedures and may require security clearance for detention facilities.

The Fresno County Department of General Services invites applications for the position of Building Maintenance Engineer. Incumbents install, maintain, and repair a wide variety of mechanical equipment in Fresno County facilities. This is a journey level (experienced level) classification and the incumbent is expected to use appropriate procedures and techniques in accomplishing assigned tasks.
As a condition of employment, selected candidates will be required to obtain and maintain security clearance to access Fresno County detention facilities. Fresno County detention facilities are "No Hostage" facilities. In the event you are taken hostage, the County will not bargain for your safe release.

Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur. Should a recruitment be open on a continuous basis, eligibles shall be certified in the order they are received not to exceed the maximum certification the department is entitled to.
Tentative Initial Interview Dates: September 11, 2026
Subsequent interviews will be conducted approximately two weeks following candidate certification to the hiring department.
Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back, and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved. Physical stamina is usually required and explosive strength using bursts of energy may be required, depending upon specific positions assignments.
