Job summary

Fresno County’s Department of General Services invites applications for the position of Air Conditioning Mechanic. Incumbents are responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial/industrial heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment on Fresno County facilities.

This is a journey level (experienced level) classification and the incumbent is expected to use appropriate procedures and techniques in accomplishing assigned tasks.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of full-time, paid work experience maintaining and repairing commercial and/or industrial refrigeration, heating, and related equipment.
• OR: Certificate of completion from an accredited college, apprenticeship, or trade school in repair of refrigeration, air conditioning systems, and related equipment, plus two (2) years of related experience.
• Possession of a Universal EPA-approved certificate.
• Valid Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair commercial/industrial HVAC equipment in Fresno County facilities.

The Fresno County Department of General Services invites applications for the position of Air Conditioning Mechanic. Incumbents are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial/industrial heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment on Fresno County facilities. This is a journey level (experienced level) classification and the incumbent is expected to use appropriate procedures and techniques in accomplishing assigned tasks.

As a condition of employment, selected candidates will be required to obtain and maintain security clearance to access Fresno County detention facilities. Fresno County detention facilities are "No Hostage" facilities. In the event you are taken hostage, the County will not bargain for your safe release.

Certification/Experience

• Four (4) years of full-time, paid work experience maintaining and repairing commercial and/or industrial refrigeration, heating, and related equipment.
• OR: Possession of a certificate of completion from an accredited college, apprenticeship, or trade school in repair of refrigeration, air conditioning systems, and related equipment, and two (2) years of full-time, paid work experience maintaining and repairing commercial and/or industrial refrigeration, heating, and related equipment.
• AND: Possession of a Universal Certificate from an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved program.
• License: Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent.
• Note: As a condition of employment, selected candidates will be required to obtain and maintain security clearance to access Fresno County detention facilities.

SELECTION PROCESS

Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.

• Initial Tentative Interview Date: August 24, 2026
• Additional interviews will be scheduled as needed.

• The eligible list for this recruitment may be extended up to 12 months, and may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions.
• Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.

Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back, and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds.
