Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years of construction industry experience or one year plus four residential certifications to qualify for Inspector I.
• Inspector II requires four years in construction, including two years of building inspections and plan checking, plus full residential ICC/State inspector certification.
• Inspector III requires six years in the field, including five years of inspections and plan checking, plus full residential and commercial certifications.

Responsibilities

• Inspect residential and commercial construction for compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire, and zoning codes.
• Review plans and specifications, applying technical judgment to methods and materials.
• Explain inspection findings clearly, document violations, and follow up on corrections.
• Answer questions from builders, architects, engineers, property owners, and the public.
• Maintain inspection records and stay current on code changes.
