Job summary

City of Scottsdale is seeking a qualified inspector to perform skilled work ensuring compliance with building codes and related regulations on large residential, commercial, and high-profile projects.

This role requires ICC certifications, a valid driver's license, and priority given to candidates with construction/inspection experience; Arizona residency is required during employment. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for professional certification.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three years construction work in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or building construction or related inspection.
  • Two years inspection experience.
  • Equivalent combination of construction experience may substitute for inspection experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license with no major citations within 39 months.
  • Arizona requires out-of-state licenses to be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the state.
  • Two ICC Certifications in at least two disciplines or a current CBO Certification.
  • Must reside in Arizona during active employment.

  • Perform skilled work to ensure compliance with International Building codes, inspection services, ordinances, survey, zoning codes and stipulations.
  • Use inspections and coordination with departments during projects to secure compliance.

Job description

Performs skilled work in all phases of large residential, commercial, and high profile projects to secure compliance with International Building codes, Inspection Services, Ordinances, Survey, Zoning Codes and Stipulations.


Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $41.59/hour.

Education and Experience


  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED)equivalent.

  • Threeyears construction work in one of the four major trades: plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or building construction or a related field of inspection.

  • Twoyears' inspection experience.

  • An equivalent combination of construction experience may substitute for the inspection experience requirement.


Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements


  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver’s licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.

  • Must possess two International Code Council (ICC) Certifications in at least two of the four disciplines: Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Construction or, alternatively, possess a current Certified Building Official (CBO) Certification.

  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.


Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment. i.e. OSHA Certification, Barricade Certification, Trench Certification.
