Job summary

The City of Scottsdale is seeking a skilled inspector to perform work across residential, commercial, and high-profile projects, ensuring compliance with International Building codes, inspection services, ordinances, survey and zoning requirements. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, plus multi-year construction and inspection experience and ICC certifications.

The role requires valid driver’s license and willingness to reside in Arizona during employment.

• Three years of construction work in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or building construction.
• Two years of inspection experience.
• An equivalent combination of construction experience may substitute for the inspection experience requirement.

Job description

Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $41.59/hour.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED)equivalent.
• Threeyears construction work in one of the four major trades: plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or building construction or a related field of inspection.
• Twoyears' inspection experience.
• An equivalent combination of construction experience may substitute for the inspection experience requirement.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

• Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
• Must possess two International Code Council (ICC) Certifications in at least two of the four disciplines: Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Construction or, alternatively, possess a current Certified Building Official (CBO) Certification.
• Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment. i.e. OSHA Certification, Barricade Certification, Trench Certification.
