Job summary

City of Livonia is seeking a Building Inspector who will review commercial, industrial and residential plans for code compliance and inspect ongoing construction to ensure adherence to codes. You will prepare inspection reports, investigate complaints and may testify in court.

The role requires knowledge of local, state and national codes, a valid Michigan driver’s license, and ACT 407 certification or ability to obtain it within three months.

Qualifications

• Must be a citizen of the United States or resident alien with the right to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or valid equivalency certificate.
• Possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Familiar with local, state and national building codes; have knowledge of electrical, plumbing and heating codes.
• ACT 407 State Registration as Building Inspector and Plan Reviewer or ability to obtain within three months.

Responsibilities

• Examine commercial, industrial and residential building plans for code compliance.
• Inspect new construction progress for code compliance; inspect existing buildings for violations.
• Prepare inspection reports; investigate complaints; issue warnings/violations and testify in court.
• Enforce zoning and ordinances; support environmental control and neighborhood conservation programs.
• Perform related duties including code enforcement and potential office duties.
