Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required, with some college.
• 3 years of work experience and training related to fire prevention.
• Fire Inspector I Certification (IL) or OSFM equivalent.
• NFPA Plan Review certification or equivalent.
• State of IL Class “B” Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Conducts inspections and serves notice of violations of local ordinances and state laws.
• Inspect all premises and buildings as often as possible.
• Identifies hazardous conditions and educates the public pertaining to fire prevention & safety.
• Conducts fire drills in schools & in public institutions.
• Supervises installation of flammable liquid tanks.
• Surveys blueprints of new constructions & remodeling permits.
• Follows up on all citizen complaints.
• Conducts joint inspections with other departments.
• Checks automatic extinguishers and closing devices to ensure working properly & maintains fire prevention
