Job summary

The City of Rolling Meadows Fire Department is seeking a full-time Fire Inspector to perform technical and administrative work in fire prevention, life safety, and code enforcement. You will conduct inspections of various occupancies, review plans for compliance, and ensure adherence to local and state fire codes.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of experience in fire prevention and be capable of interpreting construction drawings.

Qualifications

Three to five years of fire prevention and inspection experience.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and fire protection drawings.
Illinois driver’s license and pursuit of state certifications as needed.
Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

Perform fire and life safety inspections of commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-family occupancies.
Review building plans for compliance with fire and life safety requirements.
Inspect buildings under construction to verify plan compliance with codes.
Investigate fire hazards and violations and prepare corrective action reports.
Coordinate with contractors, architects, engineers and authorities on fire code requirements.
Assist with public education, fire prevention programs and community risk reduction.
