The Fire Inspector administers the City’s fire prevention and code enforcement programs by conducting annual fire and life safety inspections of licensed commercial businesses throughout Maplewood. This position is primarily responsible for inspecting approximately 500 commercial properties each year to ensure compliance with adopted fire codes and to help maintain safe environments for employees, customers, and the public.
The Fire Inspector also provides fire code expertise during the review of building plans for new construction, remodels, and tenant improvements, and reviews fire alarm and suppression system submittals for compliance with applicable codes and standards. The position conducts fire-related investigations as needed, maintains detailed inspection and enforcement records, prepares reports, and works closely with the Fire Chief, Building Official, and other city staff to support community safety and regulatory compliance.
